You, my anchor,

With the ability to hold me steady,

But also able to hold me down.

The iron chain between us, which should be strong, is rusted,

Slowly corroding against every wave thrown our way,

But you hold your ground as I sway in an ocean of emotion,

You keep me from drifting and for that I am grateful,

Yet the chain which shackles me to you is a weight at my ankles,

A personal prison I am yet able to escape.

But then, if the chain were to snap,

I am afraid of being carried away,

And drowning under the waves crashing against my body to tip me over,

Leaving me a shipwreck,

Anchored to the seabed, for an eternity.
